    As someone who has written fanfiction and become unhealthily obsessed with shipping in the past, Rhea Rhipley and Iyo Sky’s trajectory has enemies to lovers written all over it.

    If anything, it could be the fuel for all wrestlers involved for weeks to come. It feels like Triple H has been browsing AO3 and suddenly had a killer idea for Rhea and Iyo without realising how it might be perceived by queer fans ready to take WWE to task for its past misgivings.

    I am so excited to see a potentially queer storyline begin to unfold in a medium I adore, but I’m conflicted when it’s wrapped up in WWE’s complicated history with racism, sexism, and general bigotry.

    From her perspective, there is great reason to be upset and - as wrestlers are wont to do - turn against her when the time is right.

    Iyo Sky lasted roughly 40 minutes until breaking her promise to Asuka and coming out to rescue Rhea. Notably, she revealed her lesbian identity in 2010 and also stated she was bisexual at one point in her life.
