During regular operation, you’ll also be offered light snacks and your first alcoholic drink on the island.

Sandals Is Still Expecting Straight Couples

As LGBT couples are the minority at a Sandals Resort you can still expect to be asked if your spouses will be joining you when you are standing right next to them.

As we visited every Sandals Resort we would usually see 1 or 2 gay couples at each resort. Even in the UK, All Sandals’ advertisements were banned from public transit due to discriminatorypractices.

Therefore, Sandals Resorts made a significantpolicy change in 2004 by lifting its ban on same-sex couples.

Once your shuttle arrives, you’ll be directed to it, and away you’ll go. The layout of Luxury and Club rooms is the same, with the additional amenities that I listed above being in Club-level rooms.

For instance, in Jamaica, there is still no repeal of sodomy laws, and same-sex marriage is not legal.

Overall, Sandals Resorts have made significant strides in becoming more inclusive and welcoming to the LGBT community, offering a range of activities and experiences for all guests, regardless of their relationship status or sexual orientation.

Before this trip, I have been hesitant to try Sandals, given that the resorts are on islands that are not exactly friendly towards the LGBTQ community.

I stayed in a Caribbean Beach View Penthouse Club level room with a fantastic view of the Caribbean Sea, the resort pools, and the expansive beach. Each Butler room gets a full mini bar with upgraded liquors, 24-hour room service with an upgraded menu, and a Butler to take care of every need you’ll have while on vacation. They changed to be “adult-only” to be more welcoming to a broader group.

The bar is refilled daily, and if you successfully finish a bottle, they’ll replace it as many times as needed. The concierge team is a one-stop-shop for all your needs while on property. But within the walls of Sandals, all guests are welcomed with open arms regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The staff treats gay couples the same as other couples. Transfers are automatically included, and there are options to book private transfers or even a helicopter to take you to the other side of the island.

There are three main types of Butler rooms at the St Lucian Grande, a 1-bedroom suite, a Rondoval, and the over-water bungalow.

In this lounge, you’ll have access to soft drinks and coffee and places to sit while you relax before your shuttle to the resort. While some Caribbean destinations may still have conservative attitudes, Sandals has now become a haven for LGBTQtravelers who want to enjoy a romantic getaway without fear of discrimination.

However, it’s advisable to stay within the resort areas for safety.

Sandals has 15 resorts on six islands, all of which have various hurdles for the community that they have not yet overcome.
